5R55N / 5R55S / 5R55W

5R55N - The 5-speed gearbox, introduced to the market in 2000, was installed in Ford Explorers and Thunderbirds. Also used on Lincoln cars and Mazda pickup trucks in Asia and the Jaguar S-Type (for 2 years). It was intended for RWD and AWD vehicles with engines with a capacity of 3.0L to 5.0L. In 2002, the 5R55W modification was introduced to the market, and a year later the 5R55S, repairing many problematic faults. Structurally, it is similar to the 4R44E - 4R55E gearbox family.

5R55N

5R55W - A 5-speed modification of the 5R55N gearbox used in Ford Explorer and Ranger 3rd generation 2201. It differs from the 5R55S modification by a different "Overdrive" planetary gear ratio.

5R55S - this modification appeared on the market in 2003 with the "SelectShift" option enabling imitation of gear shifting as in the case of a manual gearbox without a clutch. There is also an option without "SelectShift", used in the Ford Mustang from 2005 to 2010.
