3N71B, L3N71B - The 3-speed transmission is the first automatic transmission released by Nissan. Designed for RWD vehicles with inline engine configuration. In 1982, a modification was made to add a converter lock, which increased the efficiency of the gearbox. After a year, an "Overdrive" clutch was added, and in 1985 electronic sensors and control functions were added.

- The 4-speed gearbox was introduced in 1984 as the successor to the 3N71B. Dedicated to Nissan 300ZX with RWD drive. In 1989, modifications of this gearbox were introduced for Mazda (929) cars under the name N4A-EL. In 2000, the 4N71B model became the design basis for the JR401E equipped with 3.0-liter V6 engines.
