Key Aspects of Welded Torque Converter Repair

A welded torque converter is a sealed, non-serviceable unit. Proper diagnostics cannot be performed without opening the housing. External inspection does not allow assessment of the condition of bearings, the one-way clutch, stator, or lock-up clutch friction components.

The only reliable method is to cut the housing along the weld seam, perform a full inspection and rebuild, and then reweld the unit while restoring geometry and ensuring leak-tightness.

We use specialized equipment for this process, including lathes, a dedicated fixture for coaxial welding of the housing halves, and a pressure test bench for leak testing.

Repair Process

• Opening the welded converter without damaging internal components
• Complete disassembly, cleaning, and inspection of all parts
• Replacement of lock-up clutch friction discs, pistons, sealing rings, worn bearings, and bushings
• Repair or replacement of damaged turbine, stator, or pump hub components; in-house manufacturing of individual parts if required
• Rewelding of the housing followed by pressure leak testing

Bolted (Serviceable) Torque Converters

Bolted torque converters are less common in our workshop, as many customers handle these repairs in-house. However, we also provide repair services for such units when needed.

Our Experience

We have been repairing torque converters for various types of vehicles and machinery since 2005. Large welded units for heavy-duty applications represent a dedicated area of expertise in which we have accumulated substantial experience.

What We Need for a Cost Estimate

To assess feasibility and turnaround time, please send us a photo of your torque converter via Viber, WhatsApp, or Telegram.

It is also helpful to provide:
• machine make and model
• transmission type (if known)
• description of the issue (no movement, overheating, power loss, noise, etc.)
