A4LD - 4-speed gearbox designed for RWD cars (Ford Explorer, Mazda pickup and many others) with engines from 2.5 l to 4.0 l. It was produced in Bordeaux, France. In 1995, the gearbox was updated with electronic control and renamed A4LD-E. The next modification of this gearbox in 1997 was equipped with an electronic control unit and renamed 4R44E. After several updates, another modification was released called 4R55E. Parts between these gearboxes are interchangeable.

A4LDE - The A4LD gearbox modification hit the market in 1995. The modification consisted in modernizing the electronic control.

4R44E - modification of 1997, which is fully electronically controlled. The individual symbols in the gearbox name mean: "4" - 4 gears, "4" - rear-wheel drive (F - front-wheel drive), "44" - torque (440 Nm), "E" - electronic control.

4R55E - improved version of the 4R44E gearbox - parts of both gearboxes are interchangeable.

5R44E - The 5-speed gearbox appeared on the market in 1997 and was used until 2011 in the USA. It was installed in Ford (Range) and Mazda (B-series) pickups with engines up to 3.0L. It transmits a torque of 597 Nm.

5R55E - 5-speed gearbox used in Ford, Lincoln and Mercury RWD and AWD cars. Structurally, it is very similar to the 4R55E gearbox. This is the first 5-speed automatic transmission in American cars. It has adaptive shift control and high-energy directional friction.
