CTX1 - The continuously variable transmission was introduced by Ford and Fiat in 1987. This system was designed based on the "Van Doome" mechanism used in small DAF cars in 1955. It operates by means of a drive belt similar to that used in the Van Doome, with the difference that it was a single steel belt (working in compression) instead of two rubber drive belts (working in tension).
