095 / 096 / 097 / 098 / 01M/ 01N / 01P / AG4

095 - 4-speed gearbox used in passenger cars with transverse engines from 1.6L to 2.0L. Installed in Volkswagen, Skoda, Seat and Audi cars. The differences between it and the 01M are the lack of Lock-up in the converter (095) and the bowl, housing and piston gaskets.

096 - Gearbox 096, often repaired in workshops, was installed in the Volkswagen Golf until 2009. Lock'up only engages in 4th gear.

097 - 4-speed modification 095 produced since 1995. for Audi 80 and 100, which was replaced by the 01N gearbox. It was installed in Audi with transversely mounted engines with a capacity from 1.6L to 2.6L.

098 - 4-speed modification installed on minibuses and minivans with a transversely mounted engine. 01P was created based on this box. Does not use the Lock'Up converter.

01M -  The 4-speed gearbox, preceded by the 095/096 models and considered the legendary 01M, was introduced to the market in 1995. Used in all popular FWD vehicles of the Volkswagen, Audi, Seat and Skoda brands with transversely mounted engines with a capacity of 1.6 l to 2.0 l. The most popular gearbox during the conversion was the 096 gearbox. It was installed in some Volkswagen factories until 2009 . The 01N modification was used in the Passat model with various engines. The less popular 01P engine with higher torque was installed in Volkswagen Sharan, T2 and T4, Eruovan and Ford Galaxy with engines up to 2.8L. All modifications have many compatible spare parts. This series of automatic transmissions was the last VAG production to attempt to be competitive in the market. The ZF 5HP19, which was launched in 1995, eclipsed the competition and shortly thereafter VAG stopped producing automatic transmissions and began using Aisin Warner and ZF products.

01M

01N - This 4-speed gearbox successfully replaced the 090 gearbox in 1991. Used in FWD Adua (A4, A6) with engines from 1.6L to 2.6L. Volkswagen used it in its Passat up to 1.9L with a longitudinal engine. In the years 1991-2004, three modifications of this gearbox were created, corresponding to the production years - 1991-1995, 1996-1998 and 1999-2004. Differences between them exist in some design elements.

01N

01P - installed in minivans and minibuses with an engine capacity of up to 2.8L, modification with higher torque. Used in Volkswagen Sharan, Transporter (T2/T4), Eurovan, Ford Galaxy, Mercedes-Benz V-Class and Seat Alhambra.

01P

AG4 - gearbox modification 01N developed for Audi A4, A6 and Cabrio with a 2.8L engine. They differ in housing and differential. Most parts are interchangeable in all modifications. The main difference between it and other transmissions in this family is the differential with a separate lubrication system that requires special oil.
