AXOD - 4-speed gearbox designed for FWD cars. It appeared in 1986, at a time when the Ford Crown Victoria with a 4.6-liter engine was very popular. Then Ford decided to produce a new bestseller for lower-class vehicles - the Ford Taurus with a 3.0-liter engine. When it comes to identifying the gearbox, the shape of the oil pan and gaskets was used. In 1999, for the A4XS modification, it was decided to produce a new pan gasket of the same shape, but covered with rubber.

AXODE - modification of the AXOD automatic gearbox with electronic control of the gear change process (the letter "E" was added to the AXOD name). Several significant changes were introduced compared to the first design: the TCC solenoid valve, the EPC solenoid valve and electronic sensors collecting data for the car's computer and the driver.

AX4S - this modification was released in 1994 after numerous errors of the AXOD gearbox, where additional changes were made to it in 1998. Some spare parts, the controller were changed and the friction clutches were adapted to the new ATF Mercon V oil (previously ATF Mercon IV was used). In 2004, it was replaced by a 6-speed gearbox TF-81SC from Aisin Warner.
